One of my favorite ways of connecting with like minded people with similar interests is through Meetup groups (www.meetup.com). You can join one of a particular interest or many groups on various topics in your local area or abroad. Or create your own if you don’t see the one you want. Plus the Meetup website will promote your group to those who share the same interest on your behalf. Great way to create a community.

I’ve been part of Meetup since 2005 and it has grown exponentially! One group I have joined last year is CreativiTea: ‘the art of being creative while drinking tea’. We discuss and create art while enjoying a cup or two of tea. Besides meeting new people and artists, I get to try other art mediums that I would have never explore like plasticine to create 3D art.

For this Meetup, the organizer brought in artist, Steffen Janzen who shared his experiences, inspiration and knowledge about 3D art. Tools and materials were available for all of us to get down and dirty so we could create our plasticine art for a minimum $5 donation. This also includes your cup of tea and some snacks as well.

We all played with our plasticine as we chatted about life, shared our techniques and drank tea. A really relaxed and carefree environment that allows creativity to come out. At the end of the afternoon, I completed my tree with curly branches and an apple set against a sunset background.

Thanks to Jill from CreativiTea for organizing such a great community and a fun afternoon.
